Changes coming to Aged Care in Australia
From 1 July 2025, the Australian government will introduce a new Aged Care Act to improve the lives of older Australians. This legislation is a response to problems identified by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and aims to make aged care better, fairer and easier to access.
What’s Changing?
Key features of the new Act include:
- Respect and Rights: Ensuring older people are treated with dignity and care.
- Easier Access: A single-entry point with clear eligibility requirements for easier access to services.
- New Regulatory Model: Strengthened oversight to ensure providers consistently deliver quality care.
- Support at Home Program: Customised support for older Australians who want to stay in their own homes.
What This Means for Providers Like 4Cs
For aged care providers such as 4Cs, these changes mean:
- Increased Accountability: Providers must meet stricter compliance requirements and align with the rights-based approach to care.
- Improved Training and Care Standards: Staff will receive thorough training to provide care that focuses on each person’s needs, ensuring respectful and supportive relationships.
- Adaptation to New Models: Providers will need to streamline their operations, improve communication and address the needs of a diverse aging population.
A Positive Step for Aged Care
These reforms are an opportunity for 4Cs to continue leading the way in high-quality aged care. By embracing these changes, 4Cs can ensure older Australians receive the respect, care and support they deserve.
The new Aged Care Act promises a brighter future for everyone involved in aged care— making it better, safer and more supportive.
