Finding Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways to find volunteering roles locally and across Australia.
Online Platforms
- SEEK Volunteer
- GoVolunteer – Australia-wide opportunities
- The Centre for Volunteering (NSW peak body) – Advertises NSW-based opportunities
Social Media & Local Networks
- Search for “Volunteering opportunities in Sydney” on Facebook and Instagram (e.g. SydneyVolunteer)
- Ask family and friends for recommendations
- Contact your local services and local council
- Check local organisations websites and social media pages.
Volunteer Screening Checks
Some volunteer roles require screening checks. Many organisations will guide you through the process.
NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC)
Free for volunteers.
Apply through the Office of the Children’s Guardian or visit Service NSW.

NDIS Worker Check
Required when volunteering with people with disability.
Free for volunteers.

National Police Check
Most organisations assist with applications and may cover the cost.
