Channel 10 Visits 4Cs for Neighbourhood Centre Week
As part of Neighbourhood Centre Week, 4Cs was proud to welcome Channel 10 reporter Daniel Doody to Canterbury City Community Centre to highlight the important role neighbourhood and community centres play in supporting local communities across NSW.
The story, which aired on Channel 10’s lunchtime news, explored how community centres are helping bring people together at a time when many are experiencing social isolation, rising cost of living pressures and a growing need for connection and support.
During the visit, Daniel spent time with some of the incredible women who participate in programs at 4Cs, alongside 4Cs CEO Esta Paschalidis-Chilas and Community Development worker Romana Waseem. Through their stories, viewers gained insight into the impact of programs including sewing classes, English lessons, digital workshops and social groups, which help women build confidence, develop new skills and create meaningful social connections.
For many women, particularly those starting a new life in Australia far from family and familiar support networks, 4Cs has become a safe and welcoming place where they can connect with others, improve their English, access support and feel a sense of belonging.
The feature also highlighted the importance of services such as childminding, which enables more women to participate in programs and engage with their community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful women who generously shared their stories and experiences on camera. Their voices captured the true spirit of community, resilience and connection that exists at 4Cs every day.
We also thank Daniel Doody and the Channel 10 team for taking the time to visit and help share these important stories with a wider audience. As Daniel so beautifully described it, 4Cs is “a home away from home”, a sentiment that reflects the welcoming and inclusive environment our staff, volunteers and community continue to create together.
